So young and already so successful
The Madison Celebrates its 18th Anniversary
Well over one million overnight guests and nearly five million Euros in investments since it opened in 1993: On December 6th the Madison Hotel Hamburg celebrated its 18th anniversary. Just come of age and the Madison is among the most popular and successful hotels in Hamburg – as can be seen in the annual average occupancy rate of 85 percent. And naturally the 18th anniversary was celebrated with a grand party: Owner Marlies Head welcomed 400 congratulators to the Madison, where the lobby, restaurant and bar were turned into one big party zone with live music, mulled wine and culinary delicacies.
»The Madison is more than just a job to me, it is a matter of the heart, it is my baby. To see how wonderfully it has developed over the past 18 years has been a true pleasure,« said Marlies Head on the occasion of the anniversary. »I was convinced from the beginning, that I had a good idea and that the hotel would be full, but I never had expected to reach an average annual occupancy rate of 85 percent. The success has been better than ever imagined and for that I am grateful to my guests and my dedicated team.«
Since the opening of the Four Star Superior Hotel with 166 rooms and five conference rooms in 1993, Marlies Head has invested 4.7 million Euros. In 2011 alone she invested 835.000 Euros in room renovations and technical facilities. »It is decisive that the Madison is always modern. Only those who invest remain competitive,« the owner knows. This resulted in the entire fourth floor being renovated and special business studios created whose furnishings include among other things iPod / iPhone docking stations and high speed Internet catering to the need of business travelers – a Nespresso machine and a selection of Sky TV channels are also included in the room price starting from 169 Euro per night. Moreover, the Madison is momentarily testing a hypo-allergenic room which has been designed using special paint, a high-tech Scandinavian floor covering made of exclusive Bolon (a woven, easy-to-clean vinyl flooring), synthetic fill blankets and pillows. A further large investment this year was the fully completed installation of
flat-screen TVs in all rooms.
For 18 years now Madison guests – 1.2 million have spent a night here – have appreciated the combination of casual luxury, the comfort of a first-class hotel and the exclusive functionality of fully serviced apartments with which the Madison has attained a leading position in Hamburg’s hotel sector. »This year, we have noted an occupancy rate of 84 percent and expect an increase in turnover of 3 percent compared to the previous year,« says General Manager Thomas Kleinertz. »We have had a new key card system in use since November which offers additional security. For 2012 we are planning the complete renovation of the second floor.«
And what does owner Marlies Head wish her Madison for its 18th anniversary? »Naturally, I want content guests. They are the reason my 80 employees and I are so committed to our work. And, that we can maintain the high quality of the hotel by always earning enough money to keep the Madison in first-rate shape!«
